JOHN P. GALO
John Galo suffered a heart attack running on the treadmill at work while on his lunch break, January 6, 2017. His co-workers were able to get his heart beating again but nobody knew how long he had gone without oxygen. John was put into an induced coma to give his body a chance to heal. But after 5 days, John showed no signs of brain activity. He was removed from life support and passed away on January 15, 2017.
Our family continues to deal with this huge loss. John was a son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and he was everyone's friend! Organizations like Amberwing that had helped him and his family, he wanted to someday give back to them. Thanks to you and our sponsors, we are able to donate to these great organizations and help people in need!
John gave the ultimate gift to others when he passed being an organ donor. We were so proud of John after learning someone is now able to see again thanks to his gift!
The John Galo 5k will donate 100% of the proceeds to charities that helped John or that John had supported.
With your help, and the help of our great sponsors we can continue to keep on giving!
Before he had passed away, John worked hard getting a park bench placed on the Duluth Lake walk in memory of his Aunt Joan. After he had passed away, his mom made sure to add Johns name to that bench. The bench is located near the entrance at Brighton Beach. Also the heartbeat in the 5k logo is John's actual print given to us from the day he passed.
We wanted to share that with you, his friends.
Thank you and we look forward to meeting you,
The Galo Family
